Honoring Freedom: The True Spirit of the Fourth of July
As we gather with family and friends this Fourth of July—grilling burgers, watching fireworks, and waving the American flag—we must not forget what this day truly means. It is more than a holiday; it is a sacred reminder of our nation’s birth, of brave patriots who stood against tyranny and declared that freedom was worth fighting for.
On July 4, 1776, a group of courageous men signed their names to the Declaration of Independence, pledging their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor to form a new nation under God. They didn’t bow to kings or foreign powers. They believed that rights come not from government, but from our Creator. And they risked everything to secure liberty—for themselves and for generations to come.
John Adams, one of our nation’s Founders, wrote of Independence Day:
“It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty… It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires and illuminations…”
Today, many want to rewrite history, riot, tear down monuments, and question whether America is worth celebrating. But those of us who still believe in the Constitution, in faith, in family, and in the flag—we know better. America isn't perfect, but it is still the greatest beacon of liberty the world has ever known.
Fourth of July is not about self-loathing or guilt; it’s about gratitude. It’s about remembering the blood spilled on battlefields from Valley Forge to Normandy to Fallujah. It's about small-town parades and church picnics, about children learning the Pledge of Allegiance and families praying over meals. It’s about our God-given freedoms—speech, religion, the right to bear arms—and the duty we have to protect them.
Let’s use this Independence Day to recommit ourselves to the values that made America great: personal responsibility, limited government, faith in God, and respect for law and order. Let's teach our children the truth about our founding. Let’s support our veterans, back the blue, and never apologize for being proud Americans.
The radical left may want to erase our history and transform our nation, but we still believe in America. This Fourth of July, let’s stand tall, speak boldly, and raise our flags high—not just in celebration, but in defiance of those who seek to destroy what our founders built.
God bless our troops. God bless our communities. And God bless the United States of America.
Warm regards,
Senator Tammy Nichols
That is a fine looking woman
It is NOT the “radical left” working to “erase our history!” It is the radical RIGHT that is removing historical figures, particularly women and people of color who have made tremendous contributions to our country (Tuskegee Airmen and Navajo Code Talkers for example), and forbidding discussion of critical parts of our history in the name of “DEI” which they (you) have demonized. Please do not resort to blaming “leftists” for your own actions.
